| DSMs are very good cars to have as a daily driver. The AWD system is great in the snow(not to mention youll KILL everything you race from the light), etc and youll never have to worry about the car breaking in a serious way if you keep it stock. Plus its a relatively simple car to learn about, and the engine(4g63) is a pretty strong little engine that can take quite a bit of abuse. Straight from the factory, you can do some thigns for free to make them quick. There is an intake restriction, and a screw in the MAS that you can back out to let some unmetered air by to make the car run a bit leaner as it runs pretty rich from the factory. The boost control solenoid can be easily modified with a small screwdriver to allow an extra couple psi off the turbo. And CHEAP boost controllers can be had. Stock boost pressure is about 11psi. You can grab about 15+psi off the stock setup before youll need to worry about upgrading anything, including the ECU. Thats whats really great about the car...You dotn need a special chip to be safe with higher boost levels. It comes with a TD05H-14b turbo. Its a very good turbo, and up here in Colorado weve had several people run 12 sec. 1/4s at Bandimere on that stock turbo. Recommended from most guru DSMers woudl be a datalogger from Todd Day. Hes similar to Jim WOlf in our community, and the datalogger si a product similar to the Zemulator although is more of a monitoring logging device. I have the ciomputer program and the schematic to build one for about $15.... I coudl continue talking ad nauseum, but Ill stop here. If you want any mroe info feel free to email me or call, my number is on the thing. Theres lots more info I can give out, and you can also check the national club DSM site: [ www.dsm.org ] You cna also check out my local chapter.
